Browser Utilities

Millennium includes a set of utilities that allow you to examine the components that are installed on your system and produce listings of, with information about those components. This will assist in troubleshooting situations, by allowing you to verify that the appropriate files and programs are properly installed on your system. These utilities allow you to perform these checks from within Millennium.

File Search Utility

The File Search utility allows you to perform a basic file search from within the Millennium browser, on the IIS machine. You may search for an Millennium file, or any other type of file. From the list of utilities in the Tools World, System Upkeep, Utilities list, when you click File Search, you will be prompted to enter a password. This is the utility password, not your user login password. (Contact your system administrator or Customer Support for the password.) The utility will launch within the display area. You may focus the search using the following elements of the utility:

Select Drive - The pull-down list box will show a list of possible drive letters which may (or may not) be in use on the IIS machine.

Type Directory - The text box may be used to focus the search on a directory on the specified drive. Following the text box is an example of the format to use when entering information here. If you want to search the root of the drive, this text box should be left blank, or type an asterisk. If you want to search any of the sub-directories, you must enter the path name within the drive to the specific, desired directory.

Filename - The text box may be used to specify the name of the file for which you want to search. Note that as shown in the example, you should not enter the file extension, only the file name. If you want to search for files of a particular type regardless of the file name, you should leave this text box blank, or enter an asterisk.

Extension - The text box may be used to focus the search on files of a particular type, by entering the desired extension.

When all information appears in the form as desired, you may execute the search by clicking the Submit button. If you want to start over and re-specify the details of the search, you may click the Clear button to clear the form.

Search Results

When you have submitted the search, if files were found to match your criteria, a Files List table will be displayed. This table includes a field for Filename, the Date/Time of creation, the Size, and the Version Number (when applicable). At the bottom of the table, a count of the total number of files that were found is shown.

If no files were found, or if the drive or directory path were not found, an error message will be displayed, showing the search location and prompting that you verify the spelling and use the Back button to return to the search form and try again.

List Millennium DLLs

You may use the List Millennium DLLs utility to produce a list of the standard Millennium dynamic link libraries (DLLs) used by the system, and statistical information about those files. This utility allows you to access and view the list from within Millennium so that you and/or our Customer Support staff can verify that the appropriate files are installed and active on your system.

From the Tools World, System Upkeep, Utilities section of the Millennium Explorer, the display area will show a list of utilities, or links to the documentation. When you scroll to locate List Millennium DLLs and click the name, the system will automatically list all files in the inetpub\scripts\mill directory, on the system drive of your IIS as specified on the System Info page of your system.

When displayed, the listing will include the file name, the date and time that each file was last updated, the size, and a version number for each file that is found. At the bottom of the listing, a count of the files that are listed is shown.

User Information Dump

This utility provides a means of printing out User Information and certain system information for an individual, specified User ID. That user must logged into the system. This information may be helpful in diagnostic situations or for reference purposes. The function is restricted by a utility password because the printout will includes some security information.

The utility is accessed via the Tools World area of the Millennium Explorer, under System Upkeep, Utilities, and then clicking User Information Dump in the list of utility names in the display frame to the right. When accessed, the display frame will give a description of the use of the utility and show a text box for the User ID and Utility Password. You may enter any User ID and the password for the utility, NOT the user's password. It is not necessary to know the password for the User ID in order to print out this information. See your system administrator for the utility password.

The printout will show the following information:

User ID - The specified User ID for whom the printout is produced.

Password - The current password for the designated user.

IP Address - The IP Address of the workstation currently in use by this User ID, if any.

SQL Group - The security group for this user.

Constituent ID number - If the user is also a constituent on the database, this is the Constituent ID

Group - The Millennium User Group for the designated user.

Current ID number - If the user is currently logged into the system and is accessing data from a constituent's profile, this shows that constituent's ID Number.

Last Search - If the user is currently logged into the system and has performed a constituent search that produced a Search Results page, this item holds the data that was entered to produce that Search Results page.

Last Key - When this user is editing and inserting data, this information is used by the system to keep track of the function that is currently being taking place. If the user is not logged in, this will be blank.

Last User - When this user is editing and inserting data, this information is used by the system to keep track of the function that is currently being taking place. If the user is not logged in, this will be blank.

Flag #0 -#11 - This series of flags are used internally by the system as a temporary holding place for flags that trigger other behavior. For example, during Gift entry, if the transaction is a pledge, one of these flags may be set to indicate that fact until the pledge information form has been presented to the user. If the user is not logged in or is not performing one of these functions, these flags will all be equal to zero.

Match #0 -4, Mode, Flag ID number Amount - This set of information is used as a temporary holding place for information during the creation of Matching Gift transactions. If the user is not logged in, or is not performing one of these functions, this information will be blank or zero.

Use the User Info Dump Utility

  1. From the Millennium Explorer, click Tools, System Upkeep, Utilities. An index list of utilities will be shown in the display frame.
  2. Click the utility name, User Info Dump. The frame will show descriptive information and two text boxes.
  3. Type in the User ID for whom you want to print out User Information.
  4. Tab to the next text box and type in the utility password (NOT the user's password). See your system administrator for this information.)
  5. Click OK. The information will automatically be sent to the printer.

Log Off User

When a user is finished using Millennium and ready to close the browser or to use it for another task, the system expects that session to close with the Log Off command found at the bottom of the Millennium Explorer. This is necessary to close and reset certain internal files that are used by the system to track the activities of that user. It is also necessary to ensure that security is properly maintained.

If a user does not formally log off, either as an operator error or if the machine experiences an interruption of power, the system will not allow that User ID to be used at a different workstation (another IP Address) until the situation is corrected. This may be done by logging onto the original workstation using that User ID and password and formally ending the session. However, there may be situations in which the system administrator might need to perform this task for an absent user, or from another workstation. The Log Off User utility provides this capability. It can be used to log off an individual user from the same or another workstation.

Access the utility by using Millennium Explorer, Tools > System Upkeep > Utilities. Select Log Off User from the list shown in the display area. The utility's page describes its use and provides a text box for the User ID for whom you want to log off, and for the utility password. Note that this is not the user's password, in fact you need not know what that password is in order to use this function. There is a password for the utility which will be provided to your system administrator.

Note: If a user is actively logged in and using the system at the time that the utility is run, that user's connection is not interrupted by the action of this utility. The action clears the file in the IIS that tracks the user connections for this particular User ID's connection, allowing that ID the ability to login at another location. (Obviously, that User ID should not be used simultaneously from two locations.)
