Death
The Death table is used to record information concerning the place and time of death for an individual constituent, or information concerning the dissolution/disbanding of a corporation or foundation.
When a constituent's Death row is created, several automatic features are activated. These include the following:
- All Address Locators fields belonging to that constituent are changed to Deceased.
- All Address rows linked to the constituent's Addresses will be unlinked.
- Whenever the constituent name is displayed, it will be followed by the word DECEASED or DISBANDED (if a corporation or foundation). This includes the name as hyperlink text, title bar text, or reporting.
- If the Marital Status in Basic Data was Married or Surviving Spouse, it will be changed to Deceased Spouse. If the partner's status was Married, it will be changed to Surviving Spouse.
- If the Is a/Whose fields in a Relationship row had been spouse/spouse, they will be changed to deceased spouse/surviving spouse.
- For the Combined Name and Combined Salutation Name fields in a Name row, and the Name row does not have a type of Combined Mailing Name or Combined Salutation, then the standard, singular form of the Name will be constructed for both spouses; if there is an override on the Combined Name or Combined Salutation Name, the override will be unchecked.
- If the Is a/Whose fields in a Relationship row had been Employee/Employer (emp/boss) they will be changed to Former Employee/Former Employer (femp/fbos). This change occurs when the Death row is created for either the Employer (Disbanded) or the Employee (Deceased).
- The Job Status of any Employment row with a Job Status of Active will be set to No Longer at this Position.
- Any active Membership rows will be set to inactive.
- If a Tracking row exists, its Current Prospect flag will be set to N.
Refer to the Trigger Behaviors, Death topic for more a more technical discussion of these automatic features.
- Millennium system administrators or the database administrator can configure audit logging for the Death data table. For more information, see Audit Log.
- The Death table can be removed from the Millennium Explorer and all other system components (such as reporting) if it is not used. See Table Options for more information.
Display Death with Basic Data
If the Display Death with Basic Data system option is activated at your organization, then the Death item will be removed from Millennium Explorer and users must access the Basic Data display for a constituent in order to view a Death record. Note that if a constituent does not have a Death record, the section header for Death will not display. See the System Options topic for information on how to activate this option.
If the Display Death with Basic Data system option is activated at your organization, complete the following steps to create a Death record for a constituent.
- Access the constituent's Basic Data display by using Millennium Explorer,
- Point to the Edit button
located to the left of the constituent's Basic Data row, and click Link > Death or Link > Death via Default.
- Complete the Death insert form, and click Insert.
Death Field Descriptions
The following fields are included in the death data table. Note that the field labels and non-displaying designations that are listed are those that the system uses by default. If your institution wants to override these default settings, you must customize your display definition.
Note: Custom fields are included in the data table, and are available for any purpose that you want to define. These fields are not shown on the standard Display or standard Data Maintenance forms. If you want to make use of one or more of the custom fields, use the Custom Display Designer to edit the standard Display and Data Maintenance forms.
